Sheets are clean
bed well laid
curtains drawn
self serenades

Voices kept out
door is shut
sparkling floor
smells fabulous

Books are stacked
lights don't peep
no noisy polybags
so why can't I sleep!

I snoozed
'cause I boozed completely
on Wowsie Palouzie!
besides other things.
Let's put our tongue back in our mouths.
Damn it! Where's water when you need some?
There are
lights in my room
and I watch them
go on and off;
you catch my smile
like dippers

One can only wait so much
Some memories simply act as a crutch;
When what’s reality for one, is a fable for the other,
When a passionate lover is reduced to a seductor,
What’s one to do with such an insult?
You hold your head high and
act like an adult

Your scar
and its magnificence
is admired;
not by its story,
but in that aperture
of two seconds
when our eyes meet
and all my fingers crave to do
is simply...
trace it.

The same words.
Do brackets dictate every night
an excuse to cry?

Friday, November 20, 2009

How are you?
my birthday gift of o'six,
we were
but a stack of non-cemented bricks

How are you?
my boomerang wall
the spring mattress
that comforted an old fall

How are you?
my clandestined lover
I should tell you
I failed to keep it undercover

How are you?
my eye candy
you are much cuter
when the count equals 4 brandies

How are you?
my one to follow
will i meet you today or
at most tomorrow?

One shot
two shots
three shots
down
my hands wish to do
what my mind won't allow
But if I were to lift my eyes
and find you a breath away
what is right and what is wrong
who am I to say?

I put on my best dress
to smear a few designs on you
The blue-prints are ready
only the execution's left to do
How your senses heighten
and you almost smell my sighs
when you're
one joint
two joints
three joints
high

The reasons
they never matter;
Choices do

Tuesday, November 17, 2009

an idea
is more than just
an idea,
if its about you.
'cause even if it is
just an idea
and a bad one at that,
atleast you would
want me to think that;
i will continue,
too bad
i think for myself.
so i will
obsess over it
till i get a better 'idea'
to mull over
to call my original
till my "i"s become "I"s again

I see dead chicken
I am going to tear and lick and
Chew it down my throat
After you remove the hen’s hairy coat

Yum this curry and all the spices!
Is making me think of the rising prices (sigh)
But I’m going to buy a kilo anyway
It’s swine flu now, infected birds have gone away (hurray!)

I heard you turned a veggie!
Is that why you have become so edgy?
You are not getting your proper intake of proteins
Wait, first let me bite on the flesh and discard the spleen

KFC, McD or the local Chawla’s
Fried, tandoor-ed or deliciously tadka-ed
Who cares if the packet has a red and not a green label?
It’s not a fucking lifestyle, it’s my daily vegetable

Mindey, you owe me. You owe me BIG. *Thinking whether it would be the right time to shut down her blog*

A lot of people asked me for the lyrics so here we go. Lyrics credit to my senior Kasturee Kailash. She wrote this short poem accompanying a beautiful painting she made with the same name. This prompted our guitarist, coincidently her boyfriend(!), Prateek Dubey, to compose on it and the result is the gift of a song! We performed it for her on their farewell, sweet innit? :)

According to her, it is loosely inspired by a story she had heard wherein a boy is trying to look for his lost butterfly and while trying to catch it he accidentally kills it.

Blue Butterfly

[Verse 1]

My lost blue butterfly
Cold jaded mist from the morning sky

My lost blue butterfly
Cold jaded mist from the morning sky

Ebony and gold covered
Wings colored blueberry ripe
Canvas on the azure sky
Have been painted

[Chorus]
Million fireflies [X4]
My lost blue butterfly
Won't you try?

[Verse 2]
Half bitten wings a curled up carcass
Blue blood in a bowl of red criss-cross mess

Half bitten wings a curled up carcass
Blue blood in a bowl of red criss-cross mess

I dream of wings folding and unfolding
My hands won't let you go by
Canvas on the azure sky
Have been painted

[Chorus]
My lost blue butterfly

Virgil Thomson, an American composer and critic, once said "I've never known a musician who regretted being one. Whatever deceptions life may have in store for you, music itself is not going to let you down"

On that beautiful note, I present to you Zinai, a collection of a few songs composed by a couple of us 'sincere' musicians at MICA. It's all feel-good, mellow music. Like nutritious food for the soul :P

Danke!

Two bodies intertwined in the customary dance
Lying with deceit and a smile on the face
With their own hands they created the feast
The last that they would possibly taste

Drunk on the light-headedness
Drunk with pleasure
Drunk on each other’s sly plan
Alive discovering the hidden treasure

The words that made her melt
The song that turned him cold
It is a funeral that senses the living
And the story that never unfolds

The love child knows not
He turned her white picket fence
The reddest red

When I can't sense
My growing hair will display
The passage of time

Monday, November 2, 2009

While boys proudly turned into men
He tried to reverse the clock every now and then
His limbs wouldn’t allow him but his mind was on the sly
An idea that would finally complete his incomplete life

Little man ventured into the woods to enjoy the view
He never saw nature take its course before to make such a perfect brew
Surrounded by the sunset and the magical night that followed
He trampled on every grown moss like there’s no tomorrow

He carried no navigational needles to show him the way
Crumbs are dangerous as they lead to a penetrable trail
He knew he had to get back only to be a slave to her innocent smile
So he wanted not to be found, even if just for a little while

The lone adventurer never cared about the consequence of his ways
His path was straightened out, for her it was an unknown maze
She prayed one day he comes face to face with his conscience
She had enough of pretending to enjoy his attempted adolescence

But it was only his luck how agreeably things fell into place
He had always been too proud to make a wild goose chase
So he let the deer entice him deeper inside with her unparalleled grace
While the lioness quietly fed the cubs in her embrace

Except memories of the winter night left scars of his foolish whims
As the new morning softly enveloped the constellations that lead him
Dew-covered, his rested prescription glasses refuse to sanitize
It was the wrong place and time to realize the lucidity of her compromise
