Having re-read some on my earlier posts I realized I have a strong tendency to slot everything in good/nice or bad. I like that. That's good :) Makes things simple.

Starting on a bad note, my dad has just picked up the sms language. Too little too late, and too irritating. Gtalking with him has become a nightmare. The one thing about having worked in an IT company - your writing skills improve dramatically. Every spello and bad formatting bothers you.

One of the good/nice things I've discovered is the Grey's Anatomy soundtrack (which is as brilliant as the sitcom if not better), highly recommended. What nice mellow music to listen to on a cozy rainy day. The breeze, the open window spitter-spattering rain and letting the dancing wet leaves in, a cup of hot coffee casting off the steam and the dim light from the laptop in the dark sparse room. And a smile. It's a good life. Oh oh the semiotics of rain! Rains are so friggin' sexy! My hair smell awesome, skin creepily touchable. 2 servings of Maggi down. And a new song on the lips, on repeat. There is no place more beautiful as MICA when it rains. None. Niente. Nada. Non. Nein. Wow. I've got to be dreaming. Time must freeze.

While I was contemplating whether to edit all the shits, the fucks, the ass and the cocks with asterisks or completely replace the words, I came across this article by this batchmate of mine which took me by serious surprise. Ok let me introduce her first. Let’s call her WW – Weird Woman. That’s right, that’s what she is. I think all of 3 people in the entire batch speak to her. I myself must have had 2 words of conversation with WW in more than a year of being here. What’s more, I even joked to a friend the other day in class that she resembled the frog in The Frog Prince. (Obviously I’m not the nicest person in the world.)

So...yeah. Where was I? So I started reading her article expecting some predictably over-the-top, trying-to-be-cool-and-literary piece, when I realized she was literally mirroring my thoughts. Ok I have to mention it’s no great work of literature but my eyes couldn’t stop fast-scanning as she ranted on for 4 pages. And oh! I would like to thank her for writing it.

I dedicate this post to you WW. You don’t know me and never will and vice versa, nor will you ever read this blog. I feel like giving you a hug but I don’t even know which hostel you stay in. But every time I will see you from now on – in the class, the mess, chilling around the campus - I will wonder what goes on inside your brain. Though I do wish to consult you on whether to place the article in Fiction or Non-Fiction.

On a parting note, all I will say is - I need to get me some more SOAD songs!

P.S: Azhar Bhai now carries Blue Butterfly in his auto. Request it the next time ;)

I got my first awards :) Thangu Choco

Look how pretty!

Hi. You know what time it is? It's 5am. And I am drunk. And I just discovered that a stupid tradition at MICA which is called the Palaash Dance has been shown at Headlines Today. Now either that news channel is out of their heads or the dance actually is pretty cool and deserves national attention. But why would I care? I am drunk. 6 drinks down. And I wonder how and why I am even typing. I just want to wake up in the morning and wonder what would give me the energy to type at 5am and write a random blog note. But that's how life is. Random. What pisses me off is that most people's blogs have the word random in it. But why are your thoughts random? You deliberately started a blog. When you have random thoughts go and talk to your friends or yourself. You dont have to type them out in a blog. Anyway getting back to me being drunk. Had a good time. I love my friends' boyfriends. They're cool. They get alcohol, not the spurious Gujarat one, the real deal, the real stuff. And I am alive so it's true. It was not spurious. That's nice. Bloody nice. I should be sleeping. My cab ride was good. I talked about the Mumbai terror attacks which was not good. But that day was good. I remember. But whatever. This is now. That was then. I am feeling sweaty. It's hot here and I don't want to buy a fan thats costs me 1500 bucks. I don't know why but. I can afford it. It's a different thing I have to pay off my loan but it's cool. You should deny yourself basic comforts in life. Comfort is good. Yeah and it's very hot. I should be sleeping naked but it's just not the right time. Maybe tomorrow. Or day after. Whatever. Facebook sucks, restaurant city got boring. I have a lesbian party invitation tomorrow. I feel uncomfortable around girls. They are weird and judgmental and some get touchy so I am definitely not a lesbian. That's good. Maybe. I don't know. Anyway. I have 5 lectures tomorrow. I can bunk them. And sleep. And I have Black coffee work which I love to do how much ever I crib, it's an act. I might want to show I'm cool. Which is ok too. No? So basically, my friend next door is probably getting hickies and the one who lives beneath me on the ground floor is out with her bf for the night having fun. But guess who sleeps peacefully? Me. I like breakfast. I have omelette and bread everyday and I don't get bored. And coffee too. Twice a day. I am chumming. That's not nice. It's gets me irritable but tonight was fun. I had tons of chicken and did Twist Twist from Love Aaj kal with my two fingers which has now become my friends' thing to do even though its just 2 hours old. They made fun of me which is ok. Atleast they care. I like them, when I'm drunk. My friend Abhishek is leaving for Ladakh tomorrow. Isn't that cool? I wish I could take off too but I'm a good girl so I attend classes. And do my assignments on time. And might just take up another academically inclined extra curricular which is geeky but that's how I am. Haha. A friend told me she wants to give me a hug everytime she reads a new post of mine. She thinks it's dark and it flummoxes her and she wants to get to know me better. Wow. Ok. OK. Hi Apoorva. I like my room. It's the room I had my first ever recording in. I miss Golee and Prateek. I want to go to Mumbai for the weekend and feel alive again. I don't sing anymore and I hate it. Gagan called. It was so nice to talk to him. Gagan if you are reading this, please consider a sincere apology, I never meant to hurt you, I know what I did was stupid but I can't turn things around. I can only drink like I am. So yeah. But I'm happy. I feel wise. I feel good. I am learning much more than I imagined, on my own. I think it's good. I will feel much better a year later. That would be brilliant. I want to do my own gigs in Mumbai. Record maybe or try. Start composing. Maybe study harder. Beat the nerds. I act all cool but I do a Yes Yes! when I see I beat the other nerds in some quizzes. They are nice people but what a waste of life. They don't live. They will probably become consultants tomorrow. They're nice people but I wouldn't spend more than 5 mins with them. But whatever. I stay with the cool kids on campus. People judge us. But we are all nice people. Others don't see that. We might have our internal issues which like hell we do but doesn't everyone. But strangely I've kept myself away from controversies. Lol! You know the other day my semiotics teacher praised me in class. She said I was an incredible presenter. (She might have used another adjective in place of incredible) But yeah it was cool. It was definitely a morale booster. Just gave me a reason to live for another evening. That was nice. I worked hard for it. I have decided. I will work very hard in life. It has always paid off. But I am lazy by nature. That's definitely not nice. But I am learning. I sneezed. Ok I'm getting weaker. I have classes in the morning that I know for sure I'm bunking now. I would be lucky to get up and have breakfast, I like breakfast. It's a nice meal. Even if you have slept only for 4 1/2 hrs, it's nice. The next time you look at breakfast, don't make a nasty face, eat it. And have a light lunch. Have something little to eat in the evening. And top it off with a decent dinner. Have some sweet at the end of it and seal your stomach. I should know. I do it everyday. This sweat is driving me crazy. I should wipe off the kajal from my eyes otherwise I will wake up in the morning looking like a witch. Oh but guess what it's morning already. Should sleep. Tada. Byee byee. I'm gonna feel so stupid about this. Maybe I will delete it. Maybe it will just be a nice memory of the day. You know last year on the same occasion I got drunk and went to my friend's room and listened to Pink Floyd and then when the alcohol wore off we jammed till 8am, had breakfast and went to sleep. I miss you Golee. You are so fucking talented. I respect you so much. I only wish I could be as talented as you :) And Prateek I stay in your room! And I miss you too! I miss hating you for your song choices and making fun of my song choices and giving me weird names. I miss so many people. But it's ok. It really is. Bye. Must sleep. *Crash and zzz*

The bed is her stage
She sings sensual lullabies to non-conform
Spotlight’s on for the graceful nymphomaniac
It’s time to thrill with her audaciousness to perform

Dressing down is dressing up
Behold! The pins come out one by one
As they drop, the hair and the rest
He smiles as he’s seamlessly outdone

The sheets - her props
Four wooden posters - her poles
Handcuffs don’t arrest her
When vision seeps through the satin blindfold

She brings a little bit of herself
A little bit pretension
She only wanted to break his shackles
Of years of being held back by pitiful hesitation

She threw her head back and laughed
When she realized some things she mistakenly transpired
He had already found solace in his jail term
He was just a man who chanced upon what he never desired

The act had to draw curtains now
See her disappear backstage then rushing through the exit
Wondering if he’d ever request an encore.
He’d never be able to read what’s in her heart
Even when she turns back for one last tormenting look
And this becomes one for the books.

I bought new shoes with you, remember?
You insisted you pay for them
and I watched you go ahead in the line
smiling, holding up a credit card at the register
you spoke with your eyes
What the heck! this is the time
and there is a party tonight
I will show off
the new expensive shoes I could afford
and my girl.

I lost them.

This is something that has been bothering me for years. And I really don’t know if I will be able to do justice to the topic or the voices in my head but making an attempt anyway.

No one likes mediocrity. One thinks they can get a better life by trying to stretch their skills, aspirations and motivations, right? Wrong. It’s the same thing as more stress for a man who’s getting richer or a girl with such a hunk of a boyfriend that she, instead of enjoying her own guy, has to spend more time warding off other women. What happens in turn is that instead of feeling satisfied with your own life, you feel more insecure by the day.

So I say, Thoda aur wish mat karo. Bas karo.

OK I will give a dumb example from my own campus. A couple, relatively ugly, thus non-noticeable for more reasons than one, know they can’t do any better than the other, and are so freakishly happy (This I derive out of the fact that the guy was running out of the girl’s room towards the bathroom at 4am, trying to cover something I am not even going to talk about) And I am conspicuously jealous. Not because they have a partner, but they’re lucky enough for their heads not to tell them to try or wait for anything better.

Find safety in your mediocre life, convention and predictability. And I’m not being sarcastic here. Don’t think you can do any better, ‘cause when you think you strive for it and there’s always a good chance you will fail which in turn means that you lose even the mediocre thing you had. If you’re a winner, you are always alone. See, there are more mediocre things in the world which, by the relative weightage concept, means you have a better chance at happiness if you look for plain mediocrity. Mediocre intellect, mediocre career, mediocre partner, modest living with no regrets, mediocre kids, their mediocre needs from you and so on. Doesn’t it make life so much easier?

What’s the point of this article? I want to fight against this basic human instinct to look beyond his means. Settle. Just settle. Settle for anything. And love what you have.

It is not a very good time in this 24 year olds life. Things were simpler, clearer and more sorted back in 2006, which by all means, has been my best year so far. I knew where I was headed, what I wanted and even who I was gonna get hitched to. Oh well.

Not getting into the sordid details here, dwelling in the past is not the thing to do at this point of time. But you’ve gotta appreciate how I channelize my negative energy! :P

Things I have done in the past month to occupy my time
• Singing (on stage)
• Dancing (on stage)
• Acting (on stage)
• Writing (here and everywhere else)
• Getting exposed to writings of some legendary poets I had never heard of before
• Playing cricket and badminton
• Doing pre-read for some subjects
• Actually getting up to have breakfast
• Getting utterly drunk on fresher’s night and giving my date a hard time keeping up with me
• Drunk on 3 more occasions anyway
• Movie at 7am (Today, Kaminey)
• Committee meetings to discuss the in-house literary magazine and acting like a doofus
• Made 2 videos
• Made 4 posters
• Conceptualized a TV commercial, a print ad, outdoor, activations, not leaving out CSR activity, and of course giving them kickass taglines (frivolous Integrated Marketing Communications = MICA’s forte)
• Toying with Picasa
• Pan Masala hookah every 2 days
• Getting excited on the prospect of experimenting with Microsoft Publisher
• Worrying about where my career is headed and how I am going to pay off the college loan
• Losing weight in the process
• Being indifferent to the fact that I’ve been single for 11 months
• Trying to find porn that excites, to no avail
• Not phoning my parents
• All this, apart from Facebook-ing atleast 3 hours each day
• Did I mention, being featured in 3 different newspapers on 2 different occasions?

Things I want to or should be doing
• Gyming :|
• Continue learning the German language that I discontinued back in school
• Finish watching Kieslowski’s Dekalog
• Getting my laptop repaired
• Composing
• Getting a boy toy, first start giving the right signals, or looking at a boy to begin with (Bah! The woman’s too old and laid back to carry out this long process)
• Planning out a rural travel (as part of the curriculum)
• Taking my media courses more seriously
• Experiment with changing templates for the blawg
• Not sleeping at 4am
• Getting swine flu

Things I am tempted to do which I know I shouldn’t
• Drinking & Smoking up
• Hookah & Smoking up
• Smoking up

I hate holidays. It is one today and tomorrow. None of the things I should be doing stimulates me. Weed is slowly engulfing my friends one by one. I crib. And crib some more. I don’t do this often, HELP!

Original original original! Ok my vocals aren't that great on it because I guess none of us anticipated we won't get the chance to re-record before the seniors left :( Anyway still a minor hit with the 'stoners'!

Only good pheedback pleej, not that screechy one from the amps.

Golee and Prateek - First year wouldn't have been even half as beautiful if you guys weren't around. Consider this vid a small thank you from my side :)

Being the Editor of the literary committee in a B-school is a job far from easy. Writing just doesn't interest a lot of people, can you believe it? One of the biggest problems is getting quality content or any to begin with. So we have to write such mails as below to generate some kind of interest or "recall" (B-schooly. Yeck.) The only reason why I am posting it here cuz I hardly ever write funny and I seem rather pleased with this! (For any MICAns that by any stroke of my luck reach this page, I will hunt down your IP address and come straight to your room to get material)

Hi you awesome MICAn!

I’m Team LitComm! You might remember me from such awesome publications as Black Coffee and the Yearbook.

I need your, that’s right, your awesomeness to be packed in a couple of sentences for the next awesome issue of Black Coffee! Please think inside the wide universe of these awesome boxes.

NON FICTION

Some awesome memoirs, personal essays and creative non-fiction; politics, fashion, social issues et al. that you may want to speak about in all its surreal awesomeness. But kindly refrain from writing about such incidents as “Someone I know walked off the awesome stage in anger” or “My awesome date hasn’t made out with me since that drunken night”

FICTION

As long as it is not about awesome space aliens in your head taking over the earth, making us their awesome slaves, its fine by me. On the other hand, they’re not such bad people. What the heck, go crazy!

POETRY

I consider awesome poetry of any style. I know you love your awesome imaginary pet cat Amu but try to limit the number of poems on her to 2, wouldja?

REVIEWS AND CRITICISM

Umm...movies, books, bands, concerts, TV shows, the internet, whatever strikes your awesomely critical mind. Try not to make it awesomely soporific, this is not an academic journal (read MCR) Say, if during one of ChaCha’s Super Saturday Quizzes you came up with an awesome conjecture about a Kieslowski masterpiece you saw, try to put pen and paper together, hopefully make some sense and shoot it over.

ARTWORK, CARTOONS, PHOTOGRAPHY

If you are one of the awesome people who have Wren and Martin as their secret night time read because of sufferance from bad grammar and shoddy punctuation, I would like to give you a chance too! Do you paint? Or draw? Or take photographs of the birds and the bees? Or put them all together to make your awesome hostel wall? I will feature you!

Also, if you have pictures of any awesome trip you have taken (like the GIs for PGP-1) make a scrapbook of sorts, explaining the story behind each picture (preferably extraordinarily funny pictures of people with ridiculous hairdos or unnecessarily tight pants)

Deadline is strictly August 25th. Contributions received after the 25th will be printed out, crafted into effigies of papier-mâché and burnt ceremoniously in front of the mess. Please address your submissions to blackcoffee@********.in.

Loving you awesomely,

Team LitComm

Here the distance multiplies like fungus
There the distance cries the next milestone
Where are you headed?
Do you even care?

The rucksack is ready
The motel is booked
Who's giving the count?
Do you even care?

His mind stays awake
So conscious he can't sleep, he can't sleep
You thieved his patience!
Do you even care?

Did the other bring around his car?
Does he have enough supplies to last?
The one you left everything for,
Does he even care?

Black ringed eyes
Let out black ringed sighs
That's all they care for you.

Tuesday, August 4, 2009

Remember, when leaning over to kiss you
was the most natural thing one could do?
But now there's all this distance
and we've forgotten how to kiss
how to feel
how to love
make excuses
that only we understood
its been months
and sometimes I can't remember your name
or the face
or the lips
I look at our photograph
and I retry to forget
who cares.
The stars today,
they don't shine for us.

Floating around in red and black,
a little high on cognac,
I would have written a poem for each day
if you were a girl.
But it doesn't take away from your grace;
a thousand poems cannot do justice
not even just to the gleam in your eyes
from that arrogant smirk on your face.
